The Mola mola, or ocean sunfish, has roots stretching back 40 million years to the middle Eocene epoch. Despite their ancient lineage, molas are considered relatively recent additions to the fish world, appearing after the dinosaurs and even whales. Their name, "mola," comes from the Latin word for millstone, referencing their round, flat shape.
They don’t have scales, which you can see in the artwork. But if you look closely, you’ll notice subtle wave patterns hidden in the design—a quiet nod to the sea.
